America First Trade Policy
Presented on the first day of President Trump’s second term, this new approach to global trade is fundamental to the new America First policy rollout that President Trump discussed in Davos. In short, the British Empire has imposed a rules-based system of global trade that taxes, regulates and leverages all countries involved. It is being replaced by “The American System” which is economic policy that prioritizes individual creativity and production based upon the principles set forth in part by Alexander Hamilton, George Washington’s first Secretary of Treasury.
It begins with: In 2017, my Administration pursued trade and economic policies that put the American economy, the American worker, and our national security first. This spurred an American revitalization marked by stable supply chains, massive economic growth, historically low inflation, a substantial increase in real wages and real median household wealth, and a path toward eliminating destructive trade deficits.
My Administration treated trade policy as a critical component to national security and reduced our Nation’s dependence on other countries to meet our key security needs.

THIS is the Trade Policy Executive Summary, the condensed version of the policy submitted to the President, and the best way to understand the policy. It ends with this excellent conclusion:
“The Report offers a broad, yet substantive, view of U.S. trade policy as it currently stands, and articulates a roadmap for where it should go. The U.S. trade policy of today does not address long-standing and destructive global imbalances, nor does it reflect the reality that the United States is the most open, innovative, and dynamic economy in the world, which is why we must work to unlock its full potential. Now is the time to pursue trade and economic policies that put the American economy, the American worker, and our national security first. This Report provides a foundation to do exactly that.”
