The importance of listening can’t possibly be overstated. Listen, ask questions until you understand, and by doing that you also help the other person clarify the situation.

Peterson covers alot of ground in a relatively short time here. He discusses at a high level the psychology behind listening to family and asking a ton of questions to properly identify a problem. Dealing with deep issues like PTSD or childhood abuse by breaking down the steps past point of failure allows immediate progress in good habits and results.
